Does The IRS Have Access On Taxpayers’ Emails?

The IRS can never access your emails unless you turn them over willingly.  Turning over your emails to the IRS only proves that you are not involved in any fraud or scam and also increases your credibility.  The IRS is not likely to have access to emails of taxpayers as there is a law that prohibits this move.  The ISP is citing the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 to the IRS and requires them to obtain warrant to get emails from the previous six months.  Any emails older than six month do not require any warrant to obtain them.

Excerpt:

“The IRS can certainly ask you to turn over your emails voluntarily.  You may even have an interest in doing so if they prove your deductions.”
